On October 7, NBC 6 South Florida meteorologist John Morales broke down as he reported on Hurricane Milton‘s predicted path. After the hurricane quickly escalated from Category 1 to Category 5 on Monday, people were speechless at its rapid intensification. Unfortunately, Hurricane Milton’s track will be coinciding with Hurricane Helene’s in some parts, all while Florida is still reeling from the devastation caused by the latter.

As John Morales reported live on NBC6, the meteorologist started choking up as he admitted Hurricane Milton is an “incredible hurricane” that managed to drop “50 millibars in 10 hours.” The expert broke down as he traced the projected path and went on to apologize for his emotional reaction. He exclaimed, “This is just horrific,” before continuing with his reporting.
The Florida meteorologist went off-camera for the rest of his reporting. However, he touched upon how climate change and global warming have led to this situation. John Morales said, “The seas are just so incredibly, incredibly hot… Global warming, climate change leading to this and becoming an increasing threat.” At the time of his reporting, Hurricane Milton was a Category 5. However, at the time of writing, it has fortunately reduced to a Category 4.
The hurricane is set to hit Florida only about two weeks after Hurricane Helene ravaged the state. According to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, there are only 48 hours till Hurricane Milton makes landfall. Now is the time for Floridians to finalize their evacuation plans and hit the road if need be. The traffic conditions aren’t forgiving as the roads are seeing 150% more traffic compared to Monday, per BBC.
DeSantis also confirmed in a press conference that 51 counties have been declared to be in a state of emergency. Hurricane Milton’s wind speeds are predicted to reach 150mph with storm surges reaching between 5 to 10 feet. Flood protection has also been laid down to help manage the upcoming hurricane’s destruction.
Florida Division of Emergency Management has warned that the Category 4 hurricane might not be survivable. Therefore, Floridians are advised to check their evacuation zones. If a mandatory evacuation order is released for an area, residents must leave promptly to ensure their safety.
