Heinz vs. Hunts: Which Is the Supreme Ketchup For the Next Frontier, Space

We know all about famous feuds like Kanye West and Taylor Swift, Jay Leno and David Letterman, Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel, and William Shatner and pretty much anyone he’s ever worked with. But did you know there’s an ongoing feud between two of the biggest ketchup brands in the world? And this fight isn’t limited simply to earth. We all know about the Cold War-era space race between the US and the former Soviet Union. Well, there’s a new space race and it’s between ketchup brands Heinz and Hunt’s.

Recently, Heinz announced a bottle called Heinz Ketchup Marz Edition. They made like a castaway Matt Damon on a dusty, red planet and used tomatoes that were grown in the soil and weather conditions that can be found on Mars. To make this unique ketchup, the brand collaborated over months with biologists from Aldrin Space Institute at Florida Tech.

Obviously, this didn’t sit well with the folks at rival Hunt’s Ketchup. The brand decided to announce its own outer space-based ketchup called “Uranus Ketchup”. This ketchup didn’t come from any research at all. It only came to be after Stephen Colbert from ‘The Late Show’ made a comedic commercial using the name.

Last week, Hunt’s gave away 100 bottles of its “Uranus Ketchup” and t-shirts. Sadly, Heinz Mars-based ketchup isn’t available for purchase, and Hunt’s ketchup was a joke so we won’t get to taste either one any time soon. But at least we can imagine what they taste like because it’s probably the same as any ketchup: sugary tomato sauce.
