Remember those early days when everyone had enormous phones that weighed a ton and couldn’t fit anywhere? Well, it seems that those days are coming back. Rumor has it that Apple plans on releasing three new phones sometime this year. All three of them will be variations to iPhone X; one being a direct successor, one a cheaper alternative, and one featuring the largest iPhone display yet. It is said that this last model might actually surpass Samsung when it comes to display size. Although we still don’t know many details about this line of phones, here is what we do know.
Since all three phones belong to a new generation of iPhones, they will all have the Face ID ability thanks to the integrated TrueDepth sensor. It seems that the Touch ID technology is already outdated. Besides that, all of the phones will have edge-to-edge screen which is yet another feature seen in the final generation of Apple’s phones. All of them will be shipped with the new iOS 12 reportedly named Peace. The model that’s basically a direct successor to iPhone X is code-named D32 and will have the new A12 processor. For now, we don’t know much else about it.
The cheaper version of the phone won’t have OLED but LCD screen and will in many ways resemble the design of the iPhone 8. This means there will be no stainless steel edges found in the latest generation. Besides these cosmetic changes, we don’t know what other limits it will have as a cheaper but still good version of Apple’s iPhone X.
Apple’s Biggest Display Yet
However, the model that will certainly turn a few heads is the one code-named D33 thanks to its enormous display made to take on Apple’s biggest rivals — Samsung. Interestingly, the size of the phone won’t be bigger than iPhone 8 Plus, but the display with the OLED technology will be up to 6.5 inches. Some rumors suggest that one of the main features of this phone will be the split-screen option and multitasking. The other two, smaller models, won’t be able to support that.
For now, we’ll have to wait and find out just what Apple has in store for us. That being said, you shouldn’t expect far too many new features as their main goal right now is improving the stability of their products and keeping the users satisfied. Besides, a lot of companies are now pushing these big screens because they’ve simply ran out of ideas when it comes to new features. There is a good chance that we will see the dual-SIM card option in some of the upcoming models, as well as E-SIM (the integrated SIM card) but it’s just guesswork. Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference that will be held sometime in June might reveal more information about the three phones they’re planning to release. With all this in mind, it’s unlikely we’ll see any of the models before September.
