Millennials Are Set To Become The ‘Fattest Generation’ So Good Going, Everyone

These days millennials are getting blamed for everything — whether it’s the downfall of Applebee’s and Buffalo Wild Wings, or just not buying traditional things anymore, millennials are usually the first ones that others enjoy pointing the finger at. But you know what’s one thing that millennials enjoy pointing their finger at? Food. They also enjoy eating it. Like, a lot.

According to a study published by Cancer Research UK, this millennial generation is on track to become the most heaviest in recorded history. But that’s what happens when we’re in the middle of the greatest food era ever.

According to the study, around 70 percent of people born in the time period from the early 1980s to the mid-’90s – between the ages of 20 and 35, will be considered obese by the time they reach middle age. That is if current population trends are not reversed. Which they probably won’t anytime soon. For comparison, that’s twice that of their parents’ generation.

Here’s what Professor Linda Bauld, the spokesperson for Cancer Research UK, had to say about this study:

“Extra body fat doesn’t just sit there; it sends messages around the body that can cause damage to cells. This damage can build up over time and increase the risk of cancer in the same way that damage from smoking causes cancer. While these estimates sound bleak, we can stop them becoming a reality.

Millennials are known for following seemingly healthy food trends, but nothing beats a balanced diet. Eating plenty of fruit, vegetables and other fibre-filled foods like whole grains, and cutting down on junk food is the best way to keep a healthy weight.”

Look, the United States of America is already the fattest country in the world, and by a wide margin. And yes, that pun was intended. So I don’t see that changing anytime soon. While people are more aware these days and aim to eat healthier, the fact of the matter is that we just enjoy stuffing the hole in our face with food. And think of it this way: more time we spend eating actual food, the less time we have to eat Tide Pods.
