Technological giant Microsoft has been named one of the most ethical companies in the world for 2018 by the Ethisphere Institute. Another 134 companies from 23 countries and 57 industries were included on the list that is compiled on extensive research by the people in the institute.

Ethisphere has honored companies who recognize their role to influence and drive positive change in the business community and societies around the world since 2007, and have graded them on an “Ethics Quotient.”

Ethics Quotient is a score that assesses each firm’s performance in five different categories, as it follows: ethics and compliance program (35%), corporate citizenship and responsibility (20%), culture of ethics (20%), governance (15%), and leadership, innovation and reputation (10%).

Microsoft’s main rivals Apple and Google were missing from the research, while Bill Gates’ company was not included alone, but also with LinkedIn, which it bought two years ago.

Microsoft President, Brad Smith, responded to the honor with a statement.

“At Microsoft, trust and integrity are core to our values and critical to our success. We’re passionate about applying the power of technology to improve our world, and that starts with doing business in a way that builds and maintains trust with our customers. Microsoft is honored to be named once again to the World’s Most Ethical Companies by Ethisphere because it reflects our passion to make a lasting impact on the world around us.”

Some of the other notable honorees are Canon, Adobe, Allstate, Intel, Hilton, Nokia, Starbucks. You can check out all the 135 companies here.
