Yes, you can now pay monthly for your right to use tap water on specific locations in New York City thanks to the company called Reefill. Who are they and what’s the point of that? According to the data provided by the Reefill company, just last year, we’ve used up 50 billion plastic bottles and only 20 percent of that got recycled. What about the rest? Well, it ended up on landfills and in oceans irreversibly polluting the only world we’ve got. That is why we need to be a bit more responsible when it comes to our water drinking habits even when it includes tap water. This is where Reefill comes in. There are numerous locations in NYC where you can get unlimited access to fresh, chilled, and filtered tap water for the price of one regular water bottle. The idea is that you use just one bottle and refill it anytime you like, thus saving the money and the planet.
The subscription to Reefill costs just under $2 a month and comes with a practical app that will show you the location of the nearest Reefill station and keep track of your activity. That way you can find out exactly how many bottles and how much money you’ve saved using this service. You actually get to see how you’re helping change the world. If that’s not enough of an incentive, keep in mind that this company also supports an organization called Water.org that provides access to clean water to hundreds of developing countries all over the world.
