Back in August, Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson told reporters, “I think if we have a few big years and make the playoffs, if we win a Super Bowl, I’m giving out beer to everybody.”

This isn’t the first time friendly wagers have been placed on the Super Bowl.
Back in 2008, then mayors Michael Bloomberg of New York City and Thomas Menino of Boston placed a bet. Because the Giants defeated the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII, Bloomberg had the chance to celebrate with New England clam chowder, Dunkin’ Donuts coffee, Boston cream pies, chicken sausages and Brigham’s ice cream.
This year, mayors of Bangor, PA, Brooke Kerzner, and Bangor, ME, Ben Sprague, placed a bet on the Patriots/Eagles showdown. Should Philadelphia win, Sprague would send a box of Maine whoopie pies from Governor’s Restaurant in Bangor, a blueberry pie from Dysart’s Restaurant, a case of Moxie, a collection of books to be donated to the Bangor Public Library (PA) written by Bangor, ME resident Stephen King, with some refrigerator magnets and coffee mugs thrown in. Should the Patriots win, Kerzner would send a growler of beer from Bangor Trust Brew Works, an assortment of chocolates from Chocolates on Broadway, a pound of fresh-roasted coffee from Baby Harry’s Coffee Roaster, a goodie basket from Grace on Broadway and two slate quoit boards to be given to the Maine Veterans Home.
Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney and Brocton, MA’s mayor Bill Carpenter have placed their bets in as well. Philly’s Rocky Balboa statue would be dressed in Patriots gear if the Pats win, and Brockton’s Rocky Marciano statue would wear Eagles gear should the Eagles win. The mayors also put up a keg of Yards beer over Rocky Marciano wine.
Philadelphia fans are known to be crazy, which caused the city of Philadelphia to grease their lampposts prior to last week’s NFC Championship game to prevent fans from climbing on them, but that didn’t stop these would be fans. As many over social media have said, you couldn’t tell whether the Eagles won or lost by looking out at the streets of Philadelphia after the game. Look for more of the same after the Super Bowl.
Plus, throw in some alcohol, and things could get really wild.
