Many people are very aware that showing respect towards parents and elders is extremely important in Chinese society, so perhaps this story shouldn’t come as a shocker — and yet it’s still quite the head-turner.
An unnamed man from Guilin in the Guangxi region has been dressing up as a woman for the last 20 years in order to “help his mentally ill mom cope with the death of his sister.” And of course the story has gone completely viral in China. The man told China’s Pear Video that he decided to dress as his late sister when his mother began to show signs of mental illness following her daughter’s death.
“She was so happy, so I kept doing it. I’ve basically been living as a woman ever since. I don’t own any men’s clothing,” the man explains.

Now many people have chimed in with their own opinions about this story with the majority praising the man for going the extra mile to make his mother happy, while some have bashed him, claiming he’s just using this as an excuse to wear women’s clothing.
Regardless, thousands of folks in China have reacted to this story as it makes its way to America.
