While the celebrated and artistic custom automotive tradition of the low rider is now international, it’s culturally linked forever to the Latino communities of Los Angeles. So, there’s no better place to celebrate this unique breed of machines than at the Petersen Automotive Museum on the west side of Los Angeles.

With The High Art of Riding Low: Ranflas, Corazón e Inspiración, Petersen will examine the “diverse and complex viewpoints of artists who visualize and celebrate the lowrider aesthetic through a selection of artwork that includes vehicles, paintings, sculptures and art installations which present the lowrider as an object of artistic inspiration.” In the common, non-curator tongue, Petersen plans to look at these custom machines in every possible way in the middle of where they became a phenomena.
The exhibit will open to the public at the Petersen’s Fairfax address on July 1. However, supporters of the museum and passionate members of the LA gearhead public can snag tickets to a special opening reception and preview at 7 p.m., June 29.
