The Internet recently lost its shit over a sushi-stuffed croissant that debuted at the Highland Park location of Mr. Holmes Bakehouse. Dubbed the California Croissant, the sesame seed-studded pastry contains a piece of smoked salmon sushi in its buttery folds, plus pickled ginger, wasabi, and nori, all dished up with a side of soy sauce. This unconventional creation got us thinking: are there more food items out there that are either stuffed with, or inspired by, the popular Japanese raw fish dish? Sushi Croissant
This is the pastry that started it all. Mr. Holmes Bakehouse, an upscale California bakery with inventive menu items like the cruffin (a croissant crossed with a muffin) has done the unthinkable and stuffed a salmon roll into a flaky croissant. The $5 sweet-savory combo infused with ginger and wasabi has garnered a lot of buzz since it reappeared at the San Francisco location near 2016's end and was added to the menu at the bakery's Los Angeles outpost last month. We're going to take a wild guess and call this an acquired taste.

Sushi Burrito
It's hard to imagine improving on the already idyllic foodstuff that is the burrito, but that's what Atlanta's Boruboru Sushi has done. Similar to Chipotle, this fast-casual restaurant allows eaters to customize the contents of their massive sushi rolls. Edamame and lotus chips are served as sides. Here's hoping you don't have to hear "Guacamole's extra" as you near the end of line!

Bacon Cheeseburger Sushi
Forget the fish altogether and grab a Bacon Cheeseburger Maki! This roll, courtesy an Australian restaurant, is stuffed with an all-beef patty, bacon, melted cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, tangy pickles, and a house-made sauce. It may not be nutritionally virtuous, but you'll feel better after eating this than you would a Big Mac.

Kit Kat Sushi
There's nothing fishy about Kit Kat sushi. It's essentially a slab of puffed rice and white chocolate topped with flavored Kit Kats and infused with a tad of wasabi. Available for a limited time, these treats come in three flavors (Sea Urchin, Omelet, and Tuna) but actually taste like cantaloupe, pumpkin, and raspberry, respectively. It's a cute idea, sure, but what happened to food that tasted exactly like what it appears to be?

Nori Cup
If chopsticks give you trouble but you still want to eat sushi, a Nori Cup might be the answer. This delicacy, served at a Stockholm restaurant, is definitely finger food, but doesn't quite live up to the artistry of a well-crafted roll, aesthetically-speaking.

Peanut Butter and Jelly Sushi (Fake)
If you're feeding a pack of hungry kids (or just a bunch of immature eaters), peanut butter and jelly sushi is a fun variation on the standard PB&J sandwich. Simply cut the crusts off bread, spread with peanut butter and jelly, then roll. Children with chopsticks is a dangerous prospect, however, so let 'em use their hands.
