Scared of Crowds? Google Can Now Help You With That

Google has launched a new feature for those looking to avoid crowds just in time for Black Friday, with a new option allowing users to see how busy a place is in real-time.

Google released a feature last year called “Popular Times” in which it would display the busiest times of day for different places, ensuring that those who wanted to beat the crowd could check this information in order to do so. This latest update will make this information even more accurate, providing real-time data in regards to how many people are currently occupying a place, informing you of how many people you can expect to find there.

Discussing the change in a blog post, product manager Jamie Aspinall wrote: “Just in time for the Black Friday swarms, we’re adding a real-time look at how crowded a place is right now, to help you decide where and when to go. Whether you’re rushing to pick up a last minute gift or seeking a lively bar for some festive spirit, check Popular Times for a sneak preview of what to expect when you arrive.”

Alongside this Popular Times update, Google will also be rolling out features that will allow you to more successfully manage your time, telling you how long people typically stay at a given location in order for you to work it into your schedule. The search engine giant will also introduce more accurate opening and closing hours, accommodating stores that have various departments by allowing them to make a note of this on their search results.

If you’re not fond of venturing into crowded areas, then Google has you covered before we head into the Holiday season. With these new tools you’ll be able to plan your day around venturing into potentially crowded areas at their busiest times of day, avoiding the hustle and bustle of the Christmas period in the process.
