Google has announced the official launch date for its Daydream View virtual reality headset, revealing that it will officially make its way to buyers on November 10, 2016.
The Daydream VR headset, Google’s follow-up to the surprisingly popular Google Cardboard, now has its own Google Store page to coincide with the search engine giant’s release date announcement. The headset will be available to purchase from the following retailers globally:
- United States: Verizon, Best Buy; $79 (USD)
- Canada: Bell, Rogers, Telus, Best Buy; $99 (CAD)
- United Kingdom: EE, Carphone Warehouse; £69 (GBP)
- Germany: Deutsche Telekom; €69 (EUR)
- Australia: Telstra, JB Hi-Fi; $119 (AUD)
The headset is set to be Google’s new budget entry into the VR market, with it boasting a number of improvements over current mobile VR devices. Alongside its touch controller, which grants users added interactivity with its various apps and games, the headset will also completely utilize the hardware of the mobile devices it is paired with. This means that it can launch at a significantly lower price point, with Google having developed a Daydream VR operating system that will allow future Android phones to operate the headset.

The first smartphone to boast Daydream View VR functionality will be the Google Pixel, which was released last month. The Pixel is Google’s first ever smartphone, with it having received a hugely positive critical reception since launch. The company will no doubt be hoping that the Daydream View can entice more people into jumping onto the Pixel bandwagon, though there will be more Android devices that will support the Daydream OS in the future, if the Pixel doesn’t suit your tastes.
