Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Permanently Discontinued Due to Explosive Defect

Samsung has taken the drastic step to permanently discontinue the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, after numerous reports of both the original devices and their replacements spontaneously setting on fire.

Samsung revealed that it would now bring an end to the product line, after customers reported that even the replacement models of their potentially dangerous handsets were prone to exploding, too.

Samsung ordered its global partners to stop selling the smartphones amid growing concerns that a new defect had been uncovered with the product line, with its shares falling by 6.2% as a result of this decision. However, the South Korean company has now made the move to permanently bring an end to the Galaxy Note 7, which is set to put a major dent in its finances.

Earlier this week, Samsung urged all owners of both the original Galaxy Note 7 and its replacement models to turn off their devices, as concerns mounted regarding the safety risks the smartphones posed to their users. “Consumers with either an original Galaxy Note 7 or replacement Galaxy Note 7 device should power down and stop using the device,” it warned, citing a “rare manufacturing defect” as the reason behind the explosive problem present in the smartphones.

We’re still awaiting an official statement regarding the permanent discontinuation of the Galaxy Note 7, including instructions for current Galaxy Note 7 users and how the tech giant plans to compensate them.
