We know, we know: you’re so busy. It’s no wonder “Discover new artists and start an art collection!” isn’t high on your to-do list. Consort, a modern home goods store in Los Angeles, is making the act of decorating with art that much easier by collaborating with Tappan, an online vendor of work by emerging artists.
“We decided to invite one of our favorite art resources, Tappan, to curate our space and shine light on the conversation between art and interior design,” said Consort co-founder Mat Sanders in a press release.
The collection, titled “Consort Loves Tappan”, is decidedly Californian with its breezy, bright aesthetic. Epic oceanic photography by Marc Gabor, faceless portraits taken on lush green grass by Annelie Vandendael, sensual floral captures by Lani Trock, and palm tree close-ups by David Kitz are among the archival photography print offerings.

The art will adorn Consort’s walls, shelves, and spaces surrounding its custom, vintage, and specialty decor for the next eight weeks. Pieces will also be available for purchase through Consort’s online shop. Prices range from reasonable ($110) to outrageous ($900).
“Art and design are different genes in the same family and one cannot exist without the other,” Chelsea Neman of Tappan said in a press release. “Both are symbolic of the styles of our time, and when done well, are perpetually representative of aesthetic, meaning and intent. At the moment, there is a lot of awareness of art and design and their roles within our aesthetic world. Where does art end and design begin? The relationship between art and design is truly an exercise in balance; they not only complement each other but they rely on each other.”
Added Sanders: “You’re missing out on an amazing design opportunity if art is treated as an afterthought.”
