So An Ottawa Vibrator Company Is Being Sued Because It Decided To Keep Track Of Everyone’s Masturbation Routine

Yep, read that headline again.

Standard Innovation, an Ottawa vibrator company who is behind the smart-controlled vibrator We-Vibe, is actually facing a class action lawsuit for allegedly monitoring and recording how its customers masturbate. Because that is vital information, right? Right?!

The pervy company has been accused of deliberately violating privacy laws to “secretly collect intimate details about its customers’ use of the We-Vibe.” This according to lawsuit lawsuit filed in Illinois.

The We-Vibe pretty much allows you to control the speed and intensity of your own sex toy as well as your partner’s, because long distance relationships are rough, folks.

But here is where the lawsuit comes into play: An Illinois woman allegedly discovered after purchasing a We-Vibe back in May that the makers of her We-Vibe were keeping track of things like “the date and time of each use and the selected vibration settings” and, as well, were transferring that data, along with customers’ emails, onto their Canadian servers.

Now some dudes out in Canada know how often you folks enjoy yourselves. And we are going to assume it is very often. But we are glad you stopped and took the time to hang on our site.

It gets better: According to the lawsuit, the company failed to notify or warn customers about its allegedly creepy masturbation surveillance — “hey, everyone, so we have eyes on your masturbation fun.”

The woman is seeking an injunction prohibiting Standard Innovation from monitoring everyone’s grand old times without written consent, as well as she is demanding the company destroy all current information of this nature in its possession. And don’t worry, she also wants cash — the money she spent on her toy.

In a statement, Standard Innovation said the company uses certain limited data in “an aggregate, non-identifiable form” to help improve products.

“There’s been no allegation that any of our customers’ data has been compromised. However, given the intimate nature of our products, the privacy and security of our customers’ data is of utmost importance to our company. Accordingly, we take concerns about customer privacy and our data practices seriously.”

Oh yeah, they take their customers very, very seriously.
