A guard is alive and well today thanks to the effort of eight prisoners locked in a holding cell in the basement of the Weatherford District Courts Building. After noticing that the guard on duty had slumped over and stopped breathing, the inmates broke out of their cell not to escape, but to help.
While the prisoners understood how bad the situation would look, they still did everything in their power to aid the guard — even making enough noise for the other guards to rush in. Check out video of the incident thanks to Media24’s YouTube:
“We were worried [the other guards were] going to come with guns drawn on us,” inmate Nick Kelton recalls. “It never crossed my mind not to help whether he’s got a gun or a badge. If he falls down, I’m gonna help him.”
Thanks to the inmates, paramedics were able to get a pulse back on the guard and save his life.
