On second thought, I will take Spanish.
According to The Washington Post, a former Amherst College Spanish lecturer filed a lawsuit last month alleging the department and her supervisor encouraged teaching assistants to “sleep with and socialize with students to boost enrollment in the Spanish department.”
Dimaris Barrios-Beltran said her former supervisor Victoria Maillo told her to hire “pretty faces” as teaching assistants so more students would take Spanish classes at the college, adding that one of her teaching assistants called her in tears in 2013 because Maillo was basically treating her and others like prostitutes.
That same teaching assistant told Barrios-Beltran that Maillo was angry with her because she was dating somebody from the University of Massachusetts and told her and other assistants to go to parties with students and then have sex with them in an effort to encourage them to take Spanish.
The lawsuit also alleges that Maillo chose some rather risqué content for her curriculum, including one radio program about how watching porn would provide a boost to your sex life that probably raked in several “Class of the Year” and attendance awards.
Maillo no longer works at the college, but it sounds like she would be a shoo-in for a teaching position at Rocco Siffredi’s University of Porn.
