Student ‘Rickrolls’ His Teacher in Essay on Quantum Physics

Mark this down as the only time you will ever find ’80s pop singer Rick Astley and quantum physics mentioned in the same sentence.

Several media outlets have gone as far as hailing physics student Sairam Gudiseva a “genius” after inserting every word of the chorus of Rick Astley’s 1987 hit song Never Gonna Give You Up into his essay on quantum physics while maintaining the paper’s integrity at the same time. Or in other words, Gudiseva “Rickrolled” his physics teacher.

According to Wikipedia, Rickrolling is an internet meme that involves a person providing a hyperlink which is seemingly relevant to the topic at hand but really leads to the music video for Astley’s hit song. That explains why, out of the hundreds of thousands of songs ever written, Gudiseva chose to use one that is just awful.

Gudiseva posted a picture of his essay on Twitter last week, and it has since been retweeted 34,470 times. It’s getting quite a bit more action than this post two days later:
