We’re covering the 2016 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally with our wheels on the ground here in South Dakota. Mount up for ongoing reports from the year’s biggest motorcycle event.
It isn’t all loud engines, louder music and 24-hour parties at the 2016 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Sure, there’s a lot of that — but there’s some culture to be found around all of the iron and rubber in the Black Hills.
Every year, the Buffalo Chip – a Sturgis fixture for rally attendees for decades — hosts Motorcycles as Art. The free exhibition explores the creation of custom machines with drawings, painting, and sculptures built around a motorcycles theme. For example, last year’s “Naked Truth” examined stripped down bikes.

Fort 2016, curator Michael Lichter presents “Skin & Bones.” Examining the world of tattoos and their connection to the culture of motorcycles, the show contains both specially selected custom motorcycles from across the United States and tattoo-themed works of art.
If you can’t make it to Sturgis for the 76th edition of the big rally, you can virtually stroll through the art exhibit in the gallery below.
