BitTorrent Lauches Legit BitTorrent Now Streaming App

Turns out that BitTorrent like any good film gangsta has reached a point in its career when it wants to ‘go straight’ as the company today announced they will be launching a free, ad-supported music and video streaming service named BitTorrent Now. Don’t worry, though, you can still pirate Game Of Thrones on regular old Bit Torrent.

While recent history isn’t exactly brimming with examples of successful challengers to Spotify and Netflix‘s dual thrones atop the streaming market, Bit Torrent Now is avoiding going up against the streaming giants altogether by focusing on content created by the emerging and independent artists their competitors have overlooked.

Rather than work like Popcorn Time (which allows you to stream illegal Torrents rather than download them) BitTorrent Now will only feature content uploaded directly by its creator. And while this is great for empowering indie creators, as you can imagine, the selection is mainly tracks and videos uploaded by people you’ve never heard of.

If this idea sounds familiar, though, that’s because it should, as it is essentially a rebrand of their BitTorrent Bundle content service, the key difference being that the new service is a streaming platform whereas Bundle was… well a bundle (no points for guessing that one).

So far only available on Android, but with iOS and Apple TV versions coming soon. It is currently still unavailable in Australia though, so any BitTorrent-loving music fans down under will still have to get their tunes illegally. Or you know, use a competing service.

Anyway, you can check out the library and find out more via the website here.
