The folks behind WhistlePig Rye Whiskey probably don’t mean to cause a dilemma, but their 10 year aged, golden brown offspring does anyway.
A double barrel aging process gives this Rye an exceptionally smooth, warm finish — making it perfect for a couple fingers, straight. Maybe you might throw in a single ice cube to break it and open up the whiskey some, but true Rye lovers would probably frown on anyone splashing a lot of a mixer into a glass of WhistlePig.
However, the WhistlePig distillers serve up some of their own collected cocktail recipes for their product — gathered from establishments who serve the whiskey to the public.
That makes sense as few distillers want their products known just as individual sipping spirits. You sell a hell of a lot more bottles of whiskey (Rye or otherwise) if purists and mixologists alike both buy for their shelf selections.
As always, I’ll let you decide how you want to enjoy your WhistlePig Straight Rye Whiskey. I’m sticking to my two fingers, straight. No rocks. No chaser. If you would like to see how this Rye plays with others, I’ll include two recipes direct from the source below.
