Dan Jewett is an educator. He was a science teacher at a Seattle private school when the news of his marriage to Mackenzie Scott surfaced. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos also reacted to the news of Jewett’s marriage to his ex-wife. Bezos said, “Dan is such a great guy, and I am happy and excited for the both of them” via a spokesperson. At the time of the couple’s marriage, Jewett reportedly also joined hands with his wife in “giving away” their wealth. In Scott’s page on the Giving Pledge website, Jewett said, “It is strange to be writing a letter indicating I plan to give away the majority of my wealth during my lifetime, as I have never sought to gather the kind of wealth required to feel like saying such a thing would have particular meaning.”

MacKenzie Scott’s relationship with Jewett started after her divorce from Jeff Bezos, which was finalized in 2019. As per The Washington Post, Scott met Jewett at Seattle’s Lakeside School, where Jewett was a teacher. The elite private school boasts Bill Gates as one of its alumni.
At the time of her marriage, Scott also updated her Amazon author bio and added Jewett’s name there. Her 2021 author bio read, “She lives in Seattle with her four children and her husband, Dan.” She changed her bio again after filing for divorce.
Right after the marriage, it also seemed like Jewett was taking a break from his teaching profession. Scott’s ex-husband joined her passion for philanthropy and said in the Giving Pledge post, “I join with the kindest and most thoughtful person I know in making this pledge, grateful for the exceptional privilege it will be to partner in giving away assets with the potential to do so much good when shared.”
