College football star Kyren Lacy has died at the age of 24. A former LSU wide receiver, Lacy had a promising future ahead of him in professional football. Now, fans are concerned about what happened to the talented football player.
Kyren Lacy’s cause of death explained
Kyren Lacy was found dead on Saturday night in Houston, Texas, at the age of 24, according to multiple reports. Harris County authorities reported that Lacy’s death was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a police pursuit.
The incident began when a family member called the police, reporting that Lacy had fired a gun during a verbal argument. After fleeing the scene in his vehicle, he was pursued by police, leading to a crash. When officers approached his vehicle, they found him deceased (via ESPN).
LSU issued a statement expressing their condolences to Lacy’s family and loved ones. In a statement, they said, “We’re saddened to learn of the tragic passing of former LSU Football student-athlete Kyren Lacy. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones, as well as his former teammates and coaches impacted by his passing.”
Lacy’s death comes months after a fatal crash in Louisiana in December 2024. The accident resulted in the death of Herman Hall, leading to Lacy facing multiple charges. This included negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless driving.
According to the police, Lacy had been driving a 2023 Dodge Charger, “recklessly” overtaking several vehicles “at a high rate of speed.” Lacy reportedly fled the scene without providing assistance or contacting authorities. He later turned himself in and was released on bail in January.
Before his death, Lacy had declared for the NFL Draft on December 19 and participated in LSU’s pro day. He had an exceptional season in 2024, recording 58 receptions, 866 receiving yards, and nine touchdowns. However, his legal issues led to a decline in his draft ranking.
