Taylor Swift & Carrie Underwood Feud Explained

Over the years, rumors have swirled about tension between Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood. While the two don’t seem to have been involved in a public conflict, subtle remarks and comments have fueled speculation that there’s tension between them.

In this article, we will delve into the details of their alleged feud over the years.

Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood: What happened?

Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood have not publicly clashed, but it seems there’s been quiet tension between them for years. Rumors of feud resurfaced in January 2025, when Underwood took the stage at Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration to perform “America the Beautiful.” While the appearance stirred controversy, Daily Mail sources believe it may have been aimed at Swift, as the “Love Story” singer endorsed Kamala Harris during the 2024 election.

The source said, “Some people close to Taylor think Carrie took the Trump inauguration gig to spite Taylor.” They further added, “Some people in the industry do think this is Carrie’s way of marking her territory as ‘Miss Americana’ as her side of the political aisle won the election.”

Their rocky history dates back years, when both rose to the limelight as country singers. Over time, Underwood publicly mocked Swift in various award show skits, poking fun at her dating life and referencing her political views. At the 2011 CMA Awards, Swift was seemingly uncomfortable as jokes were made about her relationships.

The next year, Underwood and Brad Paisley performed another skit mocking Swift’s connection to the Kennedy family. Swift subtly responded in a New York Times Magazine interview. She said, “[The cameras] don’t pan to you if you’re not laughing.”

Meanwhile, Underwood dismissed comparisons in a radio interview. She said, “I’m a little bit older than she is and I feel like our music is completely different and if anyone tries to make any comparisons they really haven’t listened to either one of us.”

However, in 2015, Underwood yet again shaded Swift’s famous “squad,” describing her own friends as “normal people.” Most recently, she drew attention on American Idol by describing a contestant’s voice as having a “Taylor Swift-esque quality.”
