Carlile and Shepherd met in 2009 through charity work. At the time, Shepherd worked for Paul McCartney’s charity and contacted Carlile about donating Beatles memorabilia. They spoke regularly over the phone for a year before meeting in person in 2010 backstage at a New York charity event.

Catherine Shepherd serves as the executive director of the Looking Out Foundation. The nonprofit, founded in 2008 by Brandi Carlile and her bandmates, focuses on supporting underserved communities.

Originally from London, Shepherd is the daughter of veteran British actor Jack Shepherd. She previously worked for Paul McCartney’s charity for 10 years and transitioned from acting to philanthropic leadership.

randi Carlile and Catherine Shepherd first connected by phone in 2009 and built a long-distance friendship before meeting in person in 2010. They married in 2012 and have two daughters, Evangeline Ruth (born 2014) and Elijah (born 2018).

Their relationship began when Shepherd reached out to Carlile to support her Fight the Fear campaign. Carlile later said, “She’s my best friend… and the person I argue with late into the night.” The couple also hosts a radio show together and work jointly on charitable initiatives, such as raising $300,000 for earthquake relief in Syria and Turkey in 2023. 

In 2022, Carlile described Shepherd as “a musician, singer and songwriter above all things” and added, “My life’s goal is to make her sing more.” In 2023, Shepherd introduced Carlile’s Grammy performance, stating, “It means the world to me to stand here tonight with our beautiful daughters… and introduce… one of the greatest, most authentic artists and human beings on the planet” (via People).
