After just two seasons, CBS has decided to cancel After Midnight, the late-night game show hosted by comedian Taylor Tomlinson. The show, which premiered in January 2024, was created as a replacement for The Late Late Show with James Corden in the 12:30 a.m. time slot. However, it will air its final episode in June 2025.
Here are further details on why she left the CBS show, what comedian is going to do next and more.
Taylor Tomlinson steps aside from After Midnight show
Taylor Tomlinson’s CBS show, After Midnight, is part of the recent cancelled late-night shows. With younger audiences increasingly turning to streaming and on-demand content, traditional late-night shows face declining viewership and budget cuts.
The Late Late Show with James Corden was one of the CBS shows reportedly cut due to its expensive production costs. Furthermore, NBC, for example, reduced The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to four nights a week and eliminated the band from Late Night with Seth Meyers.
While established hosts like Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, and Colbert still draw audiences, the format’s future remains uncertain. For comedians like Tomlinson, there is the flexibility of stand-up.
On a similar vein, Tomlinson openly discussed her struggle to balance After Midnight with her stand-up career. “I am doing less stand-up than I was [before hosting After Midnight]. I was on tour three weekends a month for years, so to take this job and to know that I was gonna have to scale back a little bit was a very difficult decision for me.”
The comedian further added, “I was very clear about that in the interview process. I was like, ‘Just so you know, this will never be my first love. This show will never be my thing thing — stand-up is the most important thing to me, and as long as I can do both, I would love to do both” (via Variety).
Now, with After Midnight cancelled, Tomlinson is planning on focusing on her stand-up.
