On February 28, an AI-generated video was uploaded on Instagram by user Peter C Shields. This video showed JonBenet Ramsey, wearing a pink dress, morphing into a blonde-haired Katy Perry. “WAKE UP PPL,” the video was captioned.
Perry, who came across the video, asked “Wait am I?” The 40-year-old singer’s comment received over 5000 likes, as of writing. She also received various kinds of replies from users. “This is my roman empire,” one user responded. “lmao this is amazing,” another user added.
Meanwhile, one user asked the “LIFETIMES” singer not to joke about the resemblance and conspiracy theory. “The little girl was murdered and her family destroyed,” they added.
As per Entertainment Tonight, the theory’s origins trace back to a now-deleted YouTube video originally published in 2014. According to the clip, JonBenet Ramsey’s 1996 murder was a hoax and that Perry is actually the child beauty queen.
The video suggested that Perry’s parents were actually Patsy and John Bennett Ramsey, and that they faked JonBenet’s death so she could become famous. The video also highlighted Perry’s appearance, particularly her eyebrows, jaw and the bridge of her nose, claiming that it proves they’re the same person.
However, the age difference between Katy Perry and the deceased JonBenet Ramsey puts this theory to rest. Perry, who was born in 1984, is 40 years old. Meanwhile, Ramsey, who was killed in 1996 when she was 6, was born in 1990. Thus, were Ramsey alive she would be 34 years old.
