What Happens to Drummond in Severance Season 2? Goat Scene Explained

In a chilling twist, the Severance Season 2 finale introduced a sacrificial goat scene that left viewers puzzled.

The Mammalians Nurturable department’s head Lorne (Gwendoline Christie) appears with a goat for sacrificial purposes in the episode. Drummond asks her if the goat can verve and wile. This linguistic riddle aligns with the show’s trademark verbal complexity while revealing that Lumon’s calculating cruelty extends beyond humanity.

What happens in Severance Season 2 finale’s goat scene?

Severance Season 2 introduced viewers to the new department, Mammalians Nurturable, where Lorne takes care of goats. The department had a bunch of employees who looked like they never left Lumon’s Severed floor. The season finale, Episode 10, reveals the goats simply exist for sacrificial purposes.

When Lorne appears with the most ideal goat, Drummond asks if it can verve and wile. Simply meaning, if the goat is perhaps enthusiastic enough (verve), and has naughty or cunning tendencies (wile). The most ideal goat who can “verve” and “wile” will be sacrificed for Gemma. The goat’s sacrifice will guide Gemma’s spirit to Kier.

The ominous scene indicates that Lumon plans to kill Gemma as well. But right before the goat’s killing, Mark appears outside the room with his own agenda. Drummond attempts to attack Mark to sabotage whatever he was planning to achieve.

Is Drummond dead or alive after Severance Season 2’s finale?

Drummond accidentally dies at the hands of Outie Mark in the Season 2 finale.

Before that, Lorne helps Mark get even with Drummond. Lorne hands over the gun as Mark takes it to make Drummond his hostage.

As the duo gets on the elevator to reach Export Hall, Mark accidentally pulls the trigger, killing Drummond. Later, Mark uses Drummond’s tie to enter the Cold Harbour room where Gemma is seen completing her seemingly final task.

With Drummond’s death, fans are left with more questions than answers. Many had speculated that Drummond’s loyalty to Lumon goes deeper than just his responsibility. In that case, Drummond’s death could mean, Lumon will not spare Mark.

The show’s executive producer Ben Stiller recently hinted that fans won’t face a long wait for Season 3, where the aftermath of Drummond’s death is expected to unfold. Mark’s decision to remain with Helly on the Severed floor places both in Lumon’s dangerous grasp, setting up a high-stakes continuation.
