Gwyneth Paltrow recently revealed that she and Timothee Chalamet have “a lot” of intimate scenes in their upcoming movie Marty Supreme. The actor, who’s been busy running her wellness empire Goop, is making her grand comeback to the big screen after around six years, and here’s everything she had to say.

Gwyneth Paltrow plays the wife of a rival ping-pong player in A24’s Marty Supreme, which also features Timothee Chalamet as a young table tennis champion. The film explores a complex, “transactional” relationship between their characters, with Paltrow’s character finding new life through her connection with Chalamet. “They meet and she’s had a pretty tough life, and I think he breathes life back into her, but it’s kind of transactional for them both,” she explained. The Iron Man 3 star further went on to talk about her intimate scenes in her upcoming movie with Chalamet. “I mean, we have a lot of sex in this movie. There’s a lot—a lot,” she quipped.
Filming these scenes with Timothee Chalamet was a new experience for Paltrow, as she had her first encounter with an intimacy coordinator. “There’s now something called an intimacy coordinator, which I did not know existed,” she admitted. “I was like, ‘Girl, I’m from the era where you get naked, you get in bed, the camera’s on.”
Despite the presence of the coordinator, Paltrow and Chalamet opted to handle the scenes independently. “I don’t know how it is for kids who are starting out, but…if someone is like, ‘Okay, and then he’s going to put his hand here,’ I would feel, as an artist, very stifled by that.”
The actor also joked about the age difference, “I was like, ‘Okay, great. I’m 109 years old. You’re 14.’” Yet, she admitted the upcoming film is an exploration of vulnerability, something she hadn’t experienced in her previous roles.
Marty Supreme gears up to hit theaters on December 25.
