The Elon Musk-owned social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, has gone down across the world today, leaving many users frustrated and unable to access the platform. The mass outage has resulted in many users flocking to other platforms on the internet to voice their concerns. But what actually happened to the popular social media platform?
Here are all the available details regarding the much-discussed outage experienced with X, formerly Twitter.
Is Twitter (X) down?
The episode reportedly occurred on the morning of March 10, with users highlighting issues while trying to access the website. The glitch also restricted users from loading X posts via the application, instead redirecting them to an error page with messages such as “Something went wrong” or “Try reloading.” According to Daily Record, most issues were experienced with the social media application, with only some complaining of facing problems with the website. Meanwhile, a few users also ran into trouble with the server connection.
The outage appears to have been a global one, with multiple regions reporting cases of disruption. Around 10,000 users have registered complaints regarding the outage, as per Downdetector, a website that tracks the status of online services. However, neither Elon Musk nor any representative from X has issued a public clarification regarding the social media platform abruptly going down earlier today.
In a highly publicized deal, Elon Musk purchased X, then known as Twitter, in October 2022. Since then, the business mogul has not only rebranded the company but also introduced several core reforms, especially around the content moderation practiced on the platform. Moreover, Musk also laid off a large part of X’s staff over the years. While the exact reason behind X going down remains unknown at the moment, more updates regarding the situation should follow in the coming days.
