Here’s Why The Righteous Gemstones Will End After Season 4

The fourth season of The Righteous Gemstones will be the final installment. It resumes the adventurous journey of the well-known and dysfunctional televangelist family. As fans look forward to the storyline, they also wish to discover why the show ended with the fourth installment. So, why is The Righteous Gemstones ending with Season 4?

Here is everything you need to know about the conclusion of the popular comedy series.

Why is The Righteous Gemstones Season 4 the final one?

The makers of The Righteous Gemstones felt that ending the show with Season 4 was natural. The series was renewed for its fourth installment in July 2023. However, it was announced in January this year that the show will end with Season 4.

In his interview with GQ, The Righteous Gemstones’ creator, Danny McBride, explained the reason behind the show’s conclusion. He stated, “God told me it was time. That we had achieved what we needed to do, I don’t know—it felt natural.” Additionally, McBride shared with Yahoo News Canada that every season was written as a “contained and complete story.” He also expressed that the storylines were all about “resolution and moving on.”

He added that he did not enter Season 4 announcing that this would be the end. The creator expressed that everything was fluid and felt he had done what he needed to do with the storyline. McBride also explained: “I love all the people that are in this show, from the actors to the crew, so it’s sad. I mean, it’s sad to kind of come to the conclusion of something and look back at all the good times, and look back at what you had created together, and kind of know that that’s the end of a chapter.”

The Righteous Gemstones Season 4 premiered on HBO Max on March 9, 2025. New episodes of the season will drop every Sunday at 10:00 p.m. ET in the United States.
