Kanye West Wants Drake To Speak at His Funeral

Kanye West (who goes by Ye now) and Drake have gone through decades of artistic appreciation for each other and occasional feuds. The final season of beef between the two might come to an end in 2025. The “Power” rapper recently opened up about his high opinion of Drake on X (formerly Twitter).

Kanye West posts about Drake and jealousy

Kanye West went on a posting spree on X (formerly Twitter) and included his thoughts about Drake. He acknowledged that “jealousy” had overtaken him before. However, he wrote that he can now appreciate Drake’s artistry. Ye posted (and later deleted) on X, “I love Drake. I’ma say this when I die, I need you to speak at me [sic] funeral.”

He also mentioned watching a video of Drake. The “Lift Off” singer gushed in all caps, “I saw a video of Drake walking through his house and showing he had a library of rhyme books. Man, I wish I could have seen and remembered this when my jealousy overtook me.”

Drake and Ye’s connection goes back to the early days of the “Donda” singer’s career. The Canadian artist showed appreciation for Ye in a 2009 MTV interview. The “Thank Me Later” maker said, “Before I ever got the chance to meet him, Kanye West shaped a lot of what I do, as far as music goes. We always, always, always took the time to listen to Kanye’s music and appreciate it beyond. We searched the samples and we find out where his inspiration came from, because he has one of the best ears in music, period. He knows how to recognize great music that’s not his. He knows how to utilize great sounds and great music.” (via Elle)

Ye returned the compliment by praising Drake’s bars on Young Money’s “Every Girl.” The 47-year-old artist posted on the Kanye Universecity blog: “Drake said, ‘Do you like girls like I do?? Les-bi-honest!!!!!’ Best line of the year so far!”

Drake later took a dig at Ye in “Red Button,” rapping, “Every time you need me for a boost, I never hesitated/ Every time that Yeezy called a truce, he had my head inflated/ Thinkin’ we gon’ finally peace it up and get to levitatin’/ Realize that everything premeditated.”

Ye got back at Drizzy in 2024 on the remix to Future and Metro Boomin’s Kendrick Lamar-assisted Drake diss number “Like That” on April 20. The song, available on Ye’s website, allegedly references Drake’s licensing deal with Lucian Grainge’s Universal Music Group.
