A new trend called “Airport theory” has been making waves on TikTok. Many users of the platform have been engaging with this trend and sharing their takes on it. Many netizens have thus become curious about the new trend and what it means. In recent times, TikTok has seen a rise in all sorts of odd and unique trends. This includes the Hostile Government song and Cave Diver meme.
So what is the “Airport theory” trend that is causing a lot of buzz on TikTok? Here are all the details.
Explaining the ‘Airport theory’ trend on TikTok
The “Airport theory” trend on TikTok suggests users arrive at the airport just 15-20 minutes before their scheduled departure, rather than the recommended one to two hours before a domestic flight or two to three hours before an international flight.
The trend seems to have worked for most users who practiced it. For instance, user Michael DiCostanzo who practiced the theory at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, one of the busiest airports in the world, took seven and a half minutes to clear security as mentioned in his video. He then eventually made it to the gate in just under 15 minutes. After successfully reaching the gate, he called it “a huge win for airport theory.” DiCostanzo’s video has garnered 173.5k likes.
DiCostanzo again tested the theory but this time at the Los Angeles International Airport, with his girlfriend. Here, they took 40 seconds to get their baggage tags and 2 minutes to check in their luggage. They then took 7 minutes to clear security and finally 3-4 minutes to reach their gate, clocking in at 11 minutes and 54 seconds. Thus, he was successful for the second time.
Meanwhile, another user named Lexi Smith, who also tried this theory at LA airport, made it just in time for boarding.
However, one user named Jenny Kurtz was unsuccessful when practicing the trend, as the gate closed by the time she arrived. This caused her to miss her flight. She then recommended fans not try this trend.
Moreover, another user named Vicki Holcombe said that she would never practice the theory because of her anxiety. She stated she would rather wait three hours at the airport instead of spending five hours at her home feeling uneasy.
