George Lowe cause of death explained

George Lowe, the veteran voice actor best known for voicing Space Ghost, has died at the age of 67.

His representative confirmed his passing to Rolling Stone, though the cause of death has not been disclosed. Lowe’s friend, radio host “Marvelous Marvin” Boone, stated in a Facebook post that he passed away after a “long illness.” Boone described him as a “supremely talented Artist and Voice actor” and the “funniest man on Earth.”

Lowe began his career in radio as a teenager, securing his first job at WWJB in Florida. During the late 1980s and early 1990s, he transitioned to voice-over work, collaborating with Cartoon Network and other networks. Cartoon Network cast Lowe as Space Ghost in 1994, which reimagined the 1960s Hanna-Barbera character as a satirical late-night talk show host. The series premiered on Cartoon Network and later helped define Adult Swim’s programming.

The show blended animation with real celebrity interviews, often edited for humor. Lowe first mimicked original Space Ghost actor Gary Owens but later made the role his own through improvisation. In 2020, he recalled, “We’d do everything that now would get us place sanctioned, outlawed and moved to Sri Lanka.” (via Under The Radar)
