The R&B star had just performed in Mobile the night before. She was among ten people in a Sprinter van when the crash occurred. According to TMZ, eight others were injured, but their conditions have not been disclosed.

In a statement, her representative paid tribute to the singer, saying her “voice and spirit will live on forever in the hearts of those she touched.” The family is expected to announce memorial service details in the coming days. Her daughter, Diamond Stone, confirmed the heartbreaking news on Facebook. She wrote, “My mommy is gone.”

Stone first rose to prominence in the late 1970s as part of The Sequence, one of the first female rap groups. She later became known for her solo career in R&B and neo-soul, releasing albums like Black Diamond and Mahogany Soul. Her work earned multiple Grammy nominations, including recognition for More Than a Woman and Baby. Beyond music, she was also an actress, appearing in TV series like Girlfriends and Moesha as well as films such as The Hot Chick and Ride Along.

Just weeks before her passing, Stone reflected on her five decades in the industry. She wrote on Instagram, “I’ve put in a lot of work over the years. God gave me this gift and I have shared it with the world. Even at this point I am asking my creator what is next because I have so much more to give.”
