Lefty Gunplay Arrested & Charged With Drug Possession

Up-and-coming rapper Lefty Gunplay’s recent visit to El Paso ended up in controversy when he was arrested on multiple charges. Having released his first singles in 2023, the Los Angeles artist gained global recognition after collaborating with Kendrick Lamar in his November 2024 album, GNX. After lending his vocals to the hit single “TV Off,” Lefty Gunplay quickly became a much sought-after name in the music industry. Nevertheless, he now finds himself embroiled in legal trouble following his brief incarceration.

Without further ado, here are all the details of the rapper’s arrest as well as the charges against him.

What happened to Lefty Gunplay?

The “Certified Stepper” singer’s arrest in El Paso, Texas, occurred this Monday, with official jail records highlighting three different accusations against him.

The said charges included the lack of a seat belt, possessing a prohibited item in a correctional facility, and possession of a controlled substance, as per HipHopDX. However, the precise nature of the controlled substance found on Lefty Gunplay at the time of his arrest remains unknown.

Nevertheless, the charges note that the rapper was carrying somewhere between four grams and 200 grams of the said substance. According to Texan laws, such violations carry a maximum punishment of 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Lefty, however, posted a bond exceeding the $35,000 mark, resulting in his release on the same day.

Before his unexpected arrest, Lefty Gunplay was on track to host a party in El Paso. The “Walk Em Down” singer also had a limited performance at Friends Sports Bar & Kitchen lined up. However, his unforeseen trouble with the El Paso authorities ultimately prevented him from making an appearance at the said venue.

Lefty Gunplay later opened up to local radio host Patti Diaz about the arrest, expressing guilt over missing his scheduled performance. “I feel like I gotta make it up to my El Paso fans. I know I got a lot of fans in Texas. Things didn’t work out the way they were supposed to, but at the end of the day, everything happens for a reason. I love Texas. Hopefully, we can make it right,” the rapper exclaimed.
