Roberta Flack cause of death explained

Roberta Flack’s death was confirmed by her publicist, Elaine Schock, in a statement (via Variety). The statement reads, “We are heartbroken that the glorious Roberta Flack passed away this morning, February 24, 2025. She died peacefully surrounded by her family. Roberta broke boundaries and records. She was also a proud educator.”

In another release provided to the Los Angeles Times, Flack’s representatives mourned the singer’s death and described her as an inspiration for many. “Finding your own story in how somebody sings to you — that’s what Roberta Flack did for us, for so long. She helped us hear our own stories, and she gave countless musicians a model for how to relate their own stories by way of singing.”

Flack’s demise comes after a series of health issues she encountered in the last few years. As per the outlet, the singer was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease, also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), which barred her from singing for the rest of her life.

Additionally, in 2016, Flack suffered a stroke. During her performance at the Apollo Theatre in 2018, the “Feel Like Makin’ Love” singer had to stop her show midway and was taken to the hospital (via Deadline).

After the announcement of her death, a post was shared on Flack’s official Instagram account. It features a photo of the singer with a quote by her in the caption, which reads, “February 10, 1937 – February 24, 2025 “Remember: Always walk in the light. If you feel like you’re not walking in it, go find it. Love the light.” – Roberta Flack.”
