John Lydon Criticises Taylor Swift & Fandom, Calls Her ‘Incredibly Dull’

John Lydon has never shied away from voicing his opinions, and this time, he has set his sights on Taylor Swift. In a recent interview, the Sex Pistols frontman did not hold back, calling the pop star “incredibly dull.” His comments have sparked widespread reactions, with Swift’s dedicated fanbase quick to defend her. Given her massive success and artistic evolution, many are wondering what exactly led Lydon to make such strong statements.

Here is what John Lydon said about his dislike for Taylor Swift.

John Lydon comments on Taylor Swift and her fandom

In a recent interview, John Lydon called Taylor Swift “incredibly dull.”

“There’s a whole history of that kind of singer in America: the pop teenage trivia thing,” Lydon said in an interview with NME. He then criticized her music, describing it as “elaborate,” and argued that she was trapped in a situation where she did not want to offend her fans, saying it was “daft.”

Lydon also questioned the direction of Swift’s career, stating that she had “no place to go” and mocking her style as a “swishy ballroom-gown vibe.” The former Sex Pistols vocalist then suggested that her career would only lead to her ending up in Vegas. “Because that’s the only place left and that’s no future at all, is it?,” he added.

Unsurprisingly, John Lydon’s remarks about Taylor Swift did not sit well with fans. Many took to social media to criticize the former Sex Pistols vocalist, calling his opinions outdated and irrelevant.

One fan on Threads labeled him “one of the biggest embarrassments in music” and dismissed the Sex Pistols as a “marketing tool planted in the punk scene to sell a clothing brand.” Moreover, the fan also mentioned how Lydon had no idea what punk music was and called him “an old man with hatred in his soul.”

“To quote him on Pretty Vacant ‘And we don’t care.’,” one fan wrote on X (Twitter). “No one cares what that old man thinks,” another fan tweeted.

Lydon did not stop at Swift; he also aimed at Lady Gaga. The punk icon admitted that he once admired Gaga’s talent and saw similarities between her and David Bowie. However, he claimed she had since turned into a “Bizarro World” and stated that he now dislikes her “as a human being.”
