John Amos’ Guest Character in Suits LA, Explained

Suits LA premiered on NBC on Sunday, February 23, and drew significant viewer interest. It’s the spin-off of USA Network’s Suits after the short-lived Pearson and revolves around Stephen Amell’s Ted Black, a former prosecutor in New York who has become an influential lawyer for the wealthy individuals of Los Angeles. The pilot episode features the appearance of the late great John Amos, and people are wondering what role he played in the show.

Here’s who John Amos plays in Suits LA

John Amos plays a fictional version of himself in Suits LA. This iteration is in his 80s (Amos was 84 years old when he passed away) and comes to Ted’s firm to have a meeting with Bryan Greenberg’s Rick Dodsen. He wants Rick to arrange an audition for him for an upcoming project. Rick states that the role is 15 years younger than Amos. He is also reluctant to help Amos as he would have to go behind Ted’s back to do that. However, he ultimately agrees to do what he can.

Later in the episode, this fictional iteration of Amos appears again and interacts with Ted over the upheaval at the latter’s firm. They discuss Rick’s abrupt exit, which Ted regards as a betrayal. Amos urges Ted to see how the dynamics between him and the people around him have been over the years.

This is reportedly Amos’ final role before the veteran actor passed away on August 21, 2024. Originally from Newark, New Jersey, Amos has appeared in projects like Good Times, Die Hard 2, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Coming to America, and Coming 2 America.

Reflecting on his collaboration with Amos on Suits LA, series creator Aaron Korsh told People, “I’m of the age where he was a huge, iconic figure for me as a child. So when I meet someone like that, I think of what would 10, 11, 12, 7-year-old me think of this? And it was amazing. He was an amazing guy, and it was such a great experience.”

Suits LA will run for 10 episodes.
