How did Natalie Scatorccio die in Yellowjackets Season 2?

Misty Quigley killed Natalie in Yellowjackets Season 2. In the series finale, the group was consumed by their past survivalist rituals. A deadly game of drawing cards determined who the wilderness “wanted.” When Shauna was selected as the target, chaos ensued. After learning, that the group had committed brutal killings like they were about to, Natalie pulled out a knife. Seeing this, Lisa, pointed a gun at Natalie, demanding she surrender.

Reacting on impulse, Misty attempted to neutralize Lisa with an injection of phenobarbital. However, Natalie stepped in, taking the lethal dose herself. The overdose killed Natalie instantly, leaving Misty shattered and viewers stunned.

Did Misty really want to kill Natalie in Yellowjackets?

Misty’s actions, while tragic, stemmed from her deep-seated need to protect those she cared about, even if it meant making reckless decisions. Throughout the Yellowjackets, Misty’s loyalty to Natalie has been a cornerstone of her character, both in their teenage years and as adults. However, her inability to think clearly under pressure ultimately led to Natalie’s accidental death.

Despite their differences, the two shared a genuine connection that made Natalie’s death even more heartbreaking. Misty’s reaction to the incident—her visible grief and horror—makes it clear that she never meant to harm her friend. Yet, her impulsive nature and poor judgment sealed Natalie’s fate.

“It was a complete mistake,” Christina Ricci, who plays Misty, said in an interview with Variety. “She made an impulsive choice—another characteristically immature, impulsive, selfish choice where she was going to kill the person who was going to hurt her friend. Not wanting her friends taken away, it’s about keeping what she wants. It was a disastrous decision.”
