Invincible Season 3: What Happens to Immortal in the Comics?

In both the Invincible comics and the animated series, Immortal is a prominent character mainly known for his longevity, strict leadership, distrust towards the main protagonist, and his romantic relationship with Dupli-Kate. The latest episode of the TV show, however, makes him the main focus, albeit as an alternate version of the character, who meets a rather grim fate. Accordingly, fans are wondering if Immortal dies in Invincible Season 3 and the comic series it is based on.

Here is what you need to know about Immortal’s fate in Invincible Season 3 and the comics.

Immortal’s Invincible Season 3 and fate in the comics explained

The prime Immortal has not yet died in Invincible Season 3 and is currently alive. However, an alternate version of the character who plays a prominent role in Episode 4, “You Were My Hero,” dies.

The alternate Immortal, who serves as the main antagonist of Episode 4, hails from a bleak future where he is the tyrannical ruler of Earth. He was driven insane by his immortality and immense power. He is also resentful towards his world’s Mark Grayson. Then, he blames him for abandoning Earth with his family and putting Immortal in charge of it. Prime Mark is recruited by Dropkick and Fightmaster, who hail from the bleak future into helping them stop the evil Immortal. The two then fight, and the alternate Immortal pleads with Mark to kill him and end his tyranny. Mark is initially reluctant but complies.

Prime Immortal dies at the end of the comics, however. Mark ends up killing him in a situation engineered by Robot.

Prior to this, Mark, who had seen what became of the alternate evil Immortal who became the tyrant of his world in Issue #54, which Episode 4 dramatized, wished to avoid that scenario. By the end of the series, Mark, who became Viltrum’s emperor and dethroned the evil Robot, arranged for Immortal to lead Earth. However, he had also arranged for Robot’s brain kept in a jar, to offer ideas, and help Immortal rule.

Unfortunately, Mark didn’t take into account Robot’s sinister nature. Robot’s brain eventually drove Immortal irrevocably insane, leading to the latter taking over Earth and dying at Invincible’s hands.
