A trailer for a Netflix documentary titled What Happened to Paul has garnered much fan attention, leading many to search for it on the streaming giant. However, it appears to be a fabricated story by TikTok creator Mr. Movie. Leveraging his suspenseful storytelling art, the creator tricked people into believing the documentary was real.
Here are all the details.
Could What Happened to Paul be a real Netflix documentary series?
Netflix’s What Happened to Paul documentary is fake.
Mr. Movie posted the seemingly realistic documentary trailer for What Happened to Paul in January on TikTok. The creator further attached Netflix’s hashtag to it. This made many believe that it was a creation of the streaming giant, leading to massive attention and searches on the platform. The video began with an engaging introduction, telling the audience, “There’s a missing persons documentary on Netflix with one of the creepiest voicemails you’ll ever hear. It’s called What Happened to Paul?”
The viral trailer further reveals that the story dates back to July 4, 2021, when a person named Paul Gambone disappeared. Before vanishing, he told his wife about going out to check the food on the grill. When his wife goes to see him after 20 minutes, he is nowhere to be found. She discovers the food is burning on the grill with no trace of her husband.
The narrator of the trailer adds, “Paul was last seen at his home in Ardmore, which is near Philadelphia, which is actually a town in Pennslyvania.”
A creepy recording of Paul was found on his wife’s mobile, which begins with Paul introducing himself as Mario. The story takes an unexpected turn, wherein Paul says he is not working at the carnival. Someone has abducted him and is forcing him to do things. Later, he signaled for help. This story garnered massive popularity on TikTok, captivating viewers to watch the full documentary. However, given it was made up, it’s not available on Netflix.
