Joy Behar’s absence from The View has left fans wondering if it’s a temporary break or a sign of something bigger. Viewers have noticed that Behar has been missing from the show for an entire week, prompting speculation about her whereabouts. With former co-host Star Jones stepping in and Whoopi Goldberg resuming her moderator role on Friday, questions remain about when Behar will return.
Let’s take a closer look at why Behar has been absent, what her co-hosts have said about it, and when she is expected to be back on The View.
Why was Joy Behar missing from The View last week?
Joy Behar has been absent from The View for the past week, leaving fans wondering about her whereabouts. On Thursday, February 6, Whoopi Goldberg addressed her absence, stating, “Joy is not here. We wish her a happy opening night. It’s tonight” (via Parade). Behar was present on Monday’s episode, on February 3, but was missing on Tuesday and Wednesday, when former co-host Star Jones filled in for her.
Behar’s absence is due to her involvement in her off-Broadway play, My First Ex-Husband, which premiered last week at New York’s Mac-Haydn Theater. She wrote the production and also performs in it, alongside Tovah Feldshuh, Susie Essman, and Adrienne C. Moore.
The show features a rotating cast. Susan Lucci, Tonya Pinkins, Judy Gold, and Cathy Moriarty will join from February 26. Additionally, a third lineup, starting March 26, will include Veanne Cox, Jackie Hoffman, Gina Gershon, and Andrea Navedo.
On The View, Goldberg clarified that Behar’s absence was planned but did not specify when she would return. During Friday’s episode, Goldberg took over Behar’s usual moderator seat and jokingly told the audience, “It’s Friday and yes, I’m here,” assuring them not to “adjust” their television sets.
Behar actively pursued live theater throughout her career, performing in The Food Chain and The Vagina Monologues. She also wrote and featured in her solo show, Me, My Mouth and I.
ABC has not officially announced Behar’s return date, but reports indicate she will be back on The View by Tuesday, February 11.
