The much-awaited trailer of Jurassic World Rebirth has been released. This seventh installment in the franchise follows Zora Bennett and her team as they travel to a forbidden island. It served as the original research site for Jurassic Park. However, their mission takes a dangerous turn as they uncover a shocking secret. In the trailer, fans are introduced to a new species of dinosaur called the D-Rex, sparking curiosity about its details. So, what makes the D-Rex so intriguing in Jurassic World Rebirth?
Here is everything you need to know about this new species in the science-fiction action drama.
The D-Rex mutant dinosaur in Jurassic World Rebirth explained
Diabolus Rex, aka D-Rex, is a mutant dinosaur species in Jurassic World Rebirth.
The new dinosaur was created by scientists who have the traits of numerous apex predators. According to plot leaks on Reddit, D-Rex is a failed cloned dinosaur who will now emerge as a huge source of trouble. This dinosaur possesses four arms and draws inspiration from real-world examples of flawed cloning attempts. It combines the size and aggression of a T-Rex with the intelligence of a raptor. Moreover, D-Rex can extend its jaw like a snake and camouflage itself like a cuttlefish. This giant creature now poses a major threat to the crew on the island, which is evident in the film’s trailer.
The trailer introduces D-Rex as the film’s apparent dinosaur antagonist. He is round, flaunting the body of the Tyrannosaurus Rex, and its forehead is similar to a Pachycephalosaurus. D-Rex features prominently throughout the trailer. One scene recreates a memorable moment from the original film, evoking memories of the T-Rex’s iconic flare scene. The trailer also showcases the dinosaur’s clawed foot, emphasizing its immense size. Furthermore, a scene depicts a scientist confined with a D-Rex in an airtight room, suggesting a brutal demise at the dinosaur’s hands.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, director Gareth Edwards referred to the D-Rex as a combination of T-Rex, Star Wars’s Rancor, and Alien’s Xenomorph. He stated, ”Some Rancor went in there, some H.R. Giger went in there, a little T. rex went in there…” Aside from the D-Rex, fans will get to numerous pre-historic creatures in the film.
Jurassic World Rebirth is slated to release on July 2, 2025.
