Dan and Sauphia Lanning’s love story started from a college romance and blossomed into two decades of partership. The 38-year-old football coach has been candid about his relationship and his wife’s steadfast support for his family.

Speaking of his wife, he once said at a press conference, “She’s done so many important things for our family to show her support, and it’s crazy to think that our journey together started about 16 years ago at Outback Steakhouse.” He continued, “I was a server and she was a to-go girl. And next thing you know, we’re sitting here at Oregon. But I love you, I admire your strength and I thank you.”

Dan also stood by his wife when she was suffering from a type of bone cancer called osteosarcoma back in 2016. He opened up about the impact it has had on him as a coach. “Every one of us is really ambitious, and sometimes we just aren’t patient enough to realize how blessed we are to be exactly where we’re at,” he said. “I’ve learned to really enjoy my blessings” (via Oregon Ducks).
