Here’s why Love Island’s Sammy Root and Jess Harding broke up
The reports of Love Island stars Sammy Root and Jess Harding’s split surfaced in 2023 shortly after they won Season 10.
A source revealed that their relationship “changed” after the show, leading to their breakup. “Jess and Sammy have called it quits. Things have changed since leaving the villa and Jess has realized they’re better off as friends,” the insider stated. (via Capital UK)
At the time it was reported that Harding was seemingly in Ibiza when the news of her split with Root was made public. Meanwhile, Root claimed that he learned about it “via the press.” Later, while speaking on the Staying Relevant podcast, Sammy Root revealed that they had said “we’re done” multiple times to each other before they made it official.
“Long story short, we spoke and for like a week or something things were all over the place. There’s a lot of pressure when you come out, I think Jess was struggling more with it,” Root shared.
He further added, “We kind of on the phone said – you know how you say in the heat of an argument ‘We’re done’ – we did that a couple of times and ended up sorting it out. Then the third time, she was in Ibiza, so I thought ‘When she gets back, even if we talk and meet and say it is done, then fine, whatever.’ Then I just woke up a couple days later and it was just in the press. I was like ‘Alright… guess I’m on my own!'”
Root concluded by confirming that the couple ended things on a positive note and the break up was cordial. He mentioned that he and Harding are on friendly terms after the split.
