Donald Trump Says Microsoft Is in Talks To Buy TikTok

President Donald Trump recently disclosed that Microsoft is seemingly willing to buy TikTok from ByteDance. The short-video streaming application was allowed to resume its services in the United States after the ban on it was lifted on January 19, 2025. However, Trump has asserted that TikTok’s ownership needs to be transferred to an American organization for it to function in the country permanently.

Microsoft might buy TikTok, reveals Donald Trump

Microsoft is likely in the race to buy TikTok. The update was provided by President Donald Trump.

Trump was reportedly asked whether Microsoft was considering buying TikTok while he was on Air Force One journeying from Washington to Miami. According to AP News, without any delay in answering, Trump told reporters, “I would say yes. I like bidding wars because you make your best deals.”

However, Microsoft and TikTok have not made any comment on Trump’s statement.

The update comes after Trump decided to unban TikTok in the country before his inauguration and allow it to continue functioning. TikTok, which is owned by ByteDance, a Chinese company, was set to be banned at the start of 2025 due to recent legislation.

According to this law, TikTok was asked to stop its services in the country because lawmakers believed it posed a threat to national security. Additionally, the law stated that TikTok would only be allowed to keep its operations going in the US if its ownership was transferred to an American owner by January 19.

However, TikTok failed to comply with this condition and was banned. 14 hours after the ban, Trump made a post on Truth Social in which he wrote, “I will issue an executive order on Monday to extend the period of time before the law’s prohibitions take effect, so that we can make a deal to protect our national security. I would like the United States to have a 50% ownership position in a joint venture. By doing this, we save TikTok, keep it in good hands and allow it to say up.”
