The much-awaited XO, Kitty Season 2 is finally here. It resumes the exciting journey of Katherine “Kitty” Song Covey to find true love and her mom’s side of the family. The season also took an exciting turn with a cameo of Noah Centineo’s Peter Kavinsky from the original film franchise, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. However, fans were surprised to see Peter showing up without his lady love, Lara Jean Song Covey. So, why didn’t Lara Jean appear in XO, Kitty Season 2?
Here is everything you need to know about the character’s appearance speculation in the romantic drama series.
Why was Lara Jean missing in XO, Kitty Season 2?
Lara Jean does not appear in XO, Kitty Season 2 perhaps due to the different timelines of the series and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and Lara being busy with college.
Season 2’s trailer left viewers excited about Peter Kavinsky’s cameo appearance. Additionally, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before’s fans began expecting the cameo of Peter’s partner, Lara Jean Song Covey. Many felt that Peter would not show up in Korea without his girlfriend by his side. However, surprisingly, Lara did not appear in the spin-off series. This left everyone confused as there was anticipation regarding the lead pair of the original film series showing up together.
While theories were endless, the reason behind Lara not appearing can be the difference in the timeline of the spin-off and original films. XO, Kitty’s timeline is not aligned with the film as it begins four years following Kitty and Dae’s first meeting. Their love story begins prior to Peter and Lara Jean’s final year at New York University. As the couple was in their last year at college, things would not have been easy for them.
Lara must have been stuck with her classes at college and would have even applied for an internship. These responsibilities would not have given her enough time to visit Korea. Peter managed to appear as his lacrosse team was playing in Seoul.
While Lara Jean does not show up in XO, Kitty, actor Lana Condor is open about a cameo in the series in the future. In an interview with ScreenRant, Condor stated:
“I would definitely never say no [to appearing in XO, Kitty.] I mean, I think it’s pretty clear that I love the “To All the Boys” world and have dedicated a lot of my young adulthood to it. To me, that world feels like home.”
Further, showrunner Jessica O’Toole also expressed that bringing in Lara would be a “wonderful opportunity.” Nevertheless, fans need to wait for the upcoming seasons of XO, Kitty to find out if this idea turns true.
