Netflix’s latest action comedy Back in Action is now streaming, and has become one of the hottest topics of discussion on the internet due to its twist ending. The movie follows the journey of Jamie Foxx’s Matt and Cameron Diaz’s Emily, two former CIA operatives. As things heat up, their kids are kidnapped. As such, the most asked questions to come out of Back in Action’s ending concern Matt and Emily’s children, as well as their handler Chuck (Kyle Chandler). So, what happens to the characters in the Seth Gordon-helmed flick?
Here are the answers to all your questions regarding the ending of Back in Action.
Do Matt and Emily save their kids in Back in Action’s ending?
As Back in Action approaches its ending, Matt and Emily manage to salvage their kids from the clutches of Chuck.
After getting involved in a brawl at a bar, the couple’s antics end up on the internet, sabotaging their cover. As such, their handler of the past, Chuck, turns up at their door to check up on the duo, as well as ask them about the location of an invaluable key from their past mission. Nevertheless, Matt and Emily’s house is attacked shortly afterward and ends up claiming Chuck’s life. Or that is what is shown during the action sequence.
However, it is soon revealed that Chuck is actually alive and has orchestrated the entire debacle to obtain the key. He also divulges that Baron (Andrew Scott) only entered the picture to track an under-threat agent. After making the pair privy to his real intentions, Chuck abducts Matt and Emily’s kids. In order to retrieve them, they track the CIA-operative-turned-villain to London.
In the ending of Back in Action, Matt and Emily successfully overcome Chuck, which enables them to free their kids.
Does Chuck get killed in Back in Action?
It is unclear whether Chuck survives or not as the movie ends.
Towards the final moments of Back in Action, Chuck ends up crashing into the Thames barrier, resulting in an explosion. As such, Emily and Matt return to their home, believing that the treacherous man is dead. However, the film’s ending reveals that his body was never found.
This suggests that Chuck, as clever as he is, could’ve escaped his fiery crash somehow. Moreover, Baron discloses that he intends to recruit Emily’s father, who is referred to for the first time in the movie, for a new mission.
From the looks of it, director Seth Gordon has successfully laid down the foundations for a potential sequel. While Netflix has yet to officially sanction Back in Action 2, the current dynamics clearly hint at a follow-up edition.
