Renowned South Korean director Hong Sang-soo and his partner Kim Min-hee are expecting their first child together. However, the couple has not made any official comments regarding this yet. Hong Sang-soo and actress Kim Min-hee made their relationship public to their fans in March 2017, while the director was already married to his current wife.

According to a report by media outlet The Korea Times, The Handmaiden actress Kim Min-hee is expecting her first child with veteran filmmaker Hong Sang-soo.
The pregnancy news was first reported by the Korean media outlet, Dispatch. As per their report, Hong Sang-soo and Kim Min-hee were present at a maternity clinic recently to have certain tests. Dispatch also disclosed that it was in the summer of 2024 when Kim Min-hee got pregnant with the director’s child. However, they kept the news a secret until now. They are expected to welcome their baby in spring this year as Kim Min-hee is reportedly in the final months of her pregnancy.
Hong Sang-soo and Kim Min-hee’s relationship became a hot topic in South Korea when they first disclosed it in public in 2015. They initially met on the sets of Hong Sang-soo’s movie Right Now, Wrong Then in 2015. The outlet reports that since 2015, the duo have been engaged in an extramarital affair.
He and Kim Min-hee have reportedly been living together since 2015. Hong Sang-soo and his wife, whom he married in 1985, haven’t been able to finalize their divorce yet. As per the outlet, Hong Sang-soo filed for divorce from his wife in December 2016, however, it was dismissed in 2019 because his wife didn’t respond to the settlement.
Korea JoongAng Daily in their report noted that after the birth the child will be recorded in Sang-soo’s family registry as an out-of-wedlock child. However, Kim Min-hee can take the step to get the child registered under her family registry.
